hey everyone. This is your board to rant about how much zone Icon sucks, or how rigged you think it is, or how much of a waste of time you think it is. I'm posting this topic because frankly, I'm sick and friggin tired of having zone Icon shoved down our throats on a continuous basis when ever I log in. Having to see all the zone Icon updates on the crucial announcements page when ever I log in being one of them. I mean, who fucking cares? Who fucking cares if they're gonna broadcast the zone Icon show for 24 hours straight? If it were on for 24 years, I still wouldn't listen to it!
Even though the admins say we as a zone voat on who makes it and who doesn't, how seriously true is that? Especially when it's the admins who get the final call anyway?
What it really amounts to people, is who can get the brownest nose the quickest. for some of you who entered this contest for fun, or just for something cool to do who don't really expect to win anyway, this whole board does not apply to you.
For those of you who entered the contest who are already popular and who know you've got a brown nose and lips from pressing them against the rectums of the staff around here, why bother? I mean, is it really worth it?
Anyways, I'm done for now, but I'm curious to see who else agrees with me on zone Idol being strictly a popularity contest with the admins and nothing more than a bunch of useless bullshit, or who has been staying away from the zone because this thing is getting like an annoying itch on the inside of you that you just can't scratch.
I hope the admins don't decide to delete this board, even though I'm sure a lot of people disagree with me. Because after all, this community is supposed to be about freedom of speech, is it not? So, all I'm doing is demonstrating that ability.

Cam. I too am sick and tired of having to hear about it every day. I frankly agree that it will probably end up being a popularity contest. I certainly hope they don't do this, but only time will tell.

Well bob, my intention is not for it to turn into a fight, and it's also not my intention to single out any specific participant and rag on them. that's not the purpose of it what so ever. the purpse of this board is just to see how many other people agree with me, that it's annoying, stupid, and a waste of time because people already know who the supposed good singers are, so let's just hand them the prizes right now, and be done with it. Especially as I said, the admins will make the final call. just watch. we as a community could vote all we want, but if they disagree with us, they have the power to veto those decisions. It just makes the popular people, more popular.

Zone Icon is an opportunity for people to demonstrate their talents. If you really think it's that much of a waste and such, why do you log on to the Zone? Truth to tell, the Zone is just a place to waste time, something which I note you do rather often, Cam.
If you're tired of the Zone Icon stuff and don't care, just skip the news posts when you see their heading. It's a pure, simple method of not reading what you're not interested in -- a solution even a three-year old could conceptualize.
You're seeing the Zone Icon info on the news file because it's a Zone BBS related project. Remember the Match Game, a product of Liam's? That was proudly displayed on news files, and he seemed to have no issue with it then.
On what grounds are you justifying the statement that the admins will have the final say? If it were up to me, I'd disable the ability for people like you to vote at all. But, as the Zone Icon will be using an unbiased voting system, even ridiculous ignorant folk like you can vote. All we'll do is see the tallies, you'll see percentages, and that's how you find your Icon. If anyone is to be blamed for the results, it'll be those who don't vote correctly.
Brownest nose? You're just in it with the group of pessimistic people. You're trying to look cool by bashing something, just so your fellow pessimists and losers can be like "yeah man, you're so totally cool." And how do you know who entered for fun and whose going to be kissing ass? If you can actually name people who are kissing ass, and prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that they're doing so, and furthermore that they're going to win for that reason, then I'll be able to agree with you, even from a staff member's perspective. If you're just blowing shit out of your ass though, Cam, how about getting your information straight before you bitch and moan?
I've always said that only perpetual losers protest the chance to win. I'm guessing all those times you got turned down, cheated on and fucked over have really made you a rotten man. Just because others have the chance to win at something and you don't, you're going to bitch and moan because you're not in the running by your own volition.
Liam. How much did you push Match Game's crap when you were in charge of it? How many news posts did we see? How rigged was it really? If you can honestly answer those questions, and then apply them to this situation, I'll deem your opinion a viable one. As it is, I think you're just bitching because for once, something big is happening and you're not at the center of the attention sphere. If you were running Icon, I doubt you'd be saying it that way. You'd be flaunting it around like some penis extension.

The staff is trying to work really hard at making this a great contest, i have no idea of the inner workings but I am pretty sure they're not gonna leave it all up to the admins and cl's.

I have always loved "talent" shows. In high school, I sang well enough to blend in with the choir, but I was never good enough to sing
solo. But I always have enjoyed listening to others sing solo. I would attend the auditions for the spring musical just for fun. And I still love talent shows. I admit to being an American Idol addict every January through May. So, yes, I am looking forward to Zone Idol and hearing all the talented, and probably some not so talented singers.
Having said that, I also admit that yes, I think it is being pushed a little too much and have gotten tired of all the hype. And yes, because I have a suspicious mind, I can't help wondering if certain singers who sleep with certain admins, might have an advantage. But my suspicions will not stop me from listening and voting, if we peons are allowed to vote, for my favorite singer.

You advertise stuff that you're doing all the time on MSN so don't go on at us lot for doing the same thing. We're excited and proud of what we're doing, and I see no good reason why we shouldn't announce the fact. So far as the news file is concerned all of the updates put in there have been necessary and it is a gross exaggeration to say that it has been a daily thing. It hasn't even been close.
I think what amuses me the most though is how both you and Cam are picking wholes in every little thing that we're attempting to do without actually being aware of the facts at all. Even more bizarre is that you both say you have no intention of listening either so will never be aware. The voting for example will completely be an audience driven thing. The judges themselves will give comments to the listeners but that's as much in put as they have. They have no final say what so ever. Nor for the record, because I've seen others bring this up, do the admins have any say on who goes how far. It will be the listeners that pick the zone icon from here on in.

liam's things that had nothing to do with the zone are...well, they don't have anything to do with the zone. As for matchGame, it was a zone revolution, so it kind've had to be spread around. Dan. if it is listener driven then that will be excelent. It was never made clear as to what would be the level of input the users would have. I will find no fault with it so long as the contest is fair and balanced. I don't have a problem with the thing itself, I'm not an A I fan, but the only issue I had was the constant barrage of advertising that was everywhere for it. Everywher eyou turn, it's zone icon. I suppose it's a necisary evil in some senses.
yes garret, I agree with you. why don't you zone Icon losers just give it up? The zone is here to waist time on, but I also believe that certain gf's of certain admins should be disqualified from entering a contest. Look at it this way. If I had a parent who worked for the lottery corporation, and I as their offspring won the jackpot, wouldn't that seem a little, er, odd to most of the general population who baught a ticket and didn't win? That should have been an automatic no fucking brainer from the get go.

As for liam and his msn advertising, that's got no validity here because it's not advertised on the zone, it's on his msn tags. Those of you who don't have liam on your msn lists, don't have to worry about it. And for those of you who do, again it has no validity here because it's outside the zone. I don't care who hates my guts for this board topic. I don't care how much fall out it creates. I certainly won't lose any sleep over demonstrating the ability to voice my opinions, and obviously those of some of my fellow zoners agree with me. And I have succeeded, and am currently succeededing in some other off line projects going on in my life. But I don't flaunt or plug them too often, because people really aren't that interested as a general population. Those whom I'm close to are aware of them. So this is not based on me being a sore loser or anything like that. It's based on the rant that I'm so fucking sick, and oh so fucking tired of having zone icon shoved down my throat on a daily basis.
I'm actually sorry I didn't participate in liam's match game, because I actually did listen to the broadcasts, and they sounded cool. I think the game show idea, where zone participants can use their brains rather than sound like cats and dogs with their genitalia caught in salid shooters is a much better idea.
And let's face it. I don't think we have the next stevy wonder or ronnie milsap among us, or the next blind kelly clarkson or cary underwood for that matter. So jesus, take the wheel while I plug my fucking ears, because of zone Icon, my ears might break away. lol. Thanks for reading so far, and keep up the bashing! They don't need that fucking power trip. Obviously those who are involved in zone icon, know who the judges are? That's so fucking stupid! You know, I've never talked to this Shark person, but he sounds like a complete fuckwit to me to be perfectly honest! How old is he? 12? I'm scared to even look at his profile in case I learn something shocking like he's in his 20's!
I do not agree that the competition has been plugged too much at all! You certainly cannot include people's personal MSN tags in advertising complaints! Good god! If we did that, we'd all drop dead of depression at some of the attention-grabbing, my life sucks so badly tags around!
I do think however, and I have made this perfectly clear to all the Zone Icon staff, that they have not given enough of the right information out. The voting system should have been made clear right from the start, expressly to avoid ill-informed boards like this one being posted up. The staff have indeed agreed with me, and I'm sure that next time something like this takes place, the system will be worked out and made clear to the Zone community much more effectively!
But, give them a break those of you who just posted this board without any thought to how it might upset contestants, people organising it, or those people on the Zone who might actually be looking forward to hearing something like this!
It's the first competition of it's kind to span the global blind community, and of course there are problems and issues which can only be worked out by a process of trial and error! If this doesn't take place, how can the problems be resolved to make it better in future!
Yes, the admins have control of who will make it into the top 10, but from then on, the voting is down to the Zone community! I think that should have been made clear earlier on!
But, instead of bitching and making yourself more unpopular than you already are, why don't you actually listen in and vote! I know for a fact that you've never heard me sing for example! How do you know if I'm crap or the next Usher or Bon Jovi! You have absolutely no idea do you!
There are loads of people who have entered that I've never heard, and as all entries will be played before the judge's decision about the 10 finalists is announced, we will all be able to see if their choice was completely pathettic or sensible and fare!
Yes, we can probably guess who's made it through to the top 10! OK, but, we might be very surprised! And, even if you guess right with a hundred percent accuracy, everyone in the Zone community will be able to vote off the weakest blink from week to week based on how well the finalists are doing on the tasks they've been set! I think it'll be fasinating to see how the finalists cope with things they've not actually tackled before! Some people who entered might only be able to sing well in one genre for example! If you have a classical singer for instance, who is told that their task for next week is to prepare a Skunk N Ancy song, how the hell do you think they're gonna cope with that! Well? That's why I'm looking forward to listening! I want to see if and how singers we think are fantastic right now, cope with tasks they have absolutely no idea about!
And before you say that I seem to know rather a lot about it all, believe me! I don't! I'm hardly ever around, anyone will tell you that, and I only entered the competition at the last minute myself! I'm just putting two and two together however, and making some asumptions about the only logical way the organisers could possibly run this from week to week and run a voting system to get rid of those who don't come up to scratch!
I do hope you'll think on what I've written here, because to be honest, I do think you're deciding the case before you've even bothered to hear the evidence, and that's how and why things can go horribly wrong in the world.

Matt. Only one thing I have to clarify. Zone Icon is not the first of it's kind. For-the-people.com actually did run something a few months back. I believe they ran it in June.
Good grief! I just read this whole thread in its entirety, and I ws taken back in time thirty plus years to junior high school. Shark, I've had occasion to talk to you in QN before, and you struck me as a reasonable and intelligent person. Your posts here show a whole other side of you. I don't get it. You're not even a contestant! Granted, I've only been on the Zone for six days, so it's entirely possible, no doubt probable, that I am missing at least one if not several back stories here. All I know is what I see. In the six days I've been on here, I remember exactly two news items dealing with icon. I'd hardly classify that as every day. As was stated before, this is a community event, so of course the people involved are going to promote it. Regardless of who might or might not be sleeping with whom (and what does that have to do with anything, anyway?), I'm baffled by your reaction to it, Shark. As I said, you're not even a contestant. It will be over soon. What's it to you? What am I missing?
Oh my. First, I would just like to say: How depressingly pathetic. Cam, was this really necessary? Haven't we heard more than enough of your thoughts on this subject via QN's? And yes, I am posting here despite the depressing patheticness, and that is probably also depressingly pathetic, so...anyway.
Second, I will agree with one point, and one point only, of the original topic. Zone Icon has been advertised more than is really necessary, and it has gotten a bit irritating to hear about it as often as we have. However, that is not something for which the entire Icon staff or the participants should be blamed. The advertising has been done by individuals, and one individual in particular, so if you're tired of it, tell them. I really don't see why this topic even needed to be created. As far as the news file is concerned, it would be strange if they didn't put updates there. Contrary to your claims, there are plenty of people who care, judging from questions posed in both board posts and QN's regarding how and when to listen, among other things. Just because you wouldn't listen to it even if it were being broadcast for twenty-four years doesn't mean no one else will. There are other opinions that matter, if you can believe it. Skip the updates if you don't want to read them. It's really not worth bitching about.
Third, Kai, I love you. :) This point is in response to your above post, not just one of my random proclamations. Lol.
And fourth, it has been stated numerous times that the winner is up to us, the users, from this point on. Your continual ranting about brown-nosing, ass-kissing, and personal favors which may or may not be done to ensure success are not only irritating, but invalid.

As I said earlier, sorry if ya don't like the board, I knew many people wouldn't, but I also knew that a lot of people would agree with me about the over advertising, and general plugging of it altogether. Sheesh this reminds me of Jr High to the extent that someone's gotta point a finger that it's a popularity contest.
I'm not interested in the talent show, I just ignore it. All I can say to the staff is: Make it so that everyone has a chance at winning. And that to make it clear that contestants need to give it their all and not expect to win anything. To make it so that it's not rigged or a popularity contest.
I agree that staff members and their family/spouces shouldn't be in the contest. It's like a radio show contest: If you work for the station or have family work at the station you and your family are prohibited to entering.
For the contestants: Just have fun regardless if you win or lose. Don't t ake it personal if you get dropped and just consider this as a good experience for you. And to those who do advance to the next round - maybe it be a wise idea to email the person let go with best wishes and good praise for a job well done.
My whole take on it: It's just a game gang, just enjoy it for what it is. Maybe I don't have all the facts or solution but thats how the way I see it. You shouldn't get upset over a stupid simple game. Yes, there will always be someone trying to ruin it or poke fun at it. But to those who really wanna enjoy it; just simply ignore the rantings. And to the ranters, just ignore the advertising.

I totally agree with Cam, Garret, The Lion, and Liam about the stupid Zone Icon shit being a fucking popularity contest. That's partly why I haven't been on here to much lately, because it's stupidity beyond belief and I don't give a shit about it one damn bit.
Although I feel it may be being advertised more than is necessary (like twice in the last news update), complaining about it isn't going to acheve much! Honestly, it's a contest, and will be over soon enough. I feel those who have entered are having a go at something so why criticise them? and the staff who are involved with it have put a lot of time in creating it and listening to submissions etc. It's up to the zone as a majority in the end once the judges decide the top 10 so I do'nt feel it's a popularity contest, either.

I guess the thought is that the votes won't actually count. I guess they think that the judges will ignore the votes, which frankly would lose them a lot of trust as administrators and human beings, so I can't see that actually happen. And Chris, in response to you, just put the names of the icon staff on a different web page. This way, it's not shoving it in people's faces, and doesn't look like a power trip.
Nick, the judges don't have any kind of a vito over what the audience says that's the thing. the audience votes and that is that. We are even going to be showing people who gets how many votes. The system couldn't be any fairer or less rigged.

And, there'll be other contests, and we'll be giving them the same treatment. Our hope is more of these types of things in the future, not less.

Firstly, maybe I'm totally dense, but "what in the hell am I supposed to do". I'm just a regular zoner who likes it here most of the time, and I hear a lot of advertisements for this icon thing and it sounds interesting (at least it used to). But, I don't have anyone telling me what in the hell I am supposed to do or what I am supposed to enjoy, and why.
Come on admins, give us some information. How are we supposed to vote? What if I can't, or don't want to listen to the whole thing at one fell swoop. What are the judges for?
Anyway, at this point, this should be moved to the rant board where all other rants are.
Excuse me for sounding off, but I don't think I'm alone. I think there are a lot of us who could care less about the politics of the zone etc., We'll go along with whatever you guys want, but, for god's sakes tell us what to do, where to go, and how to get there.

On that icon page, we have rules to the Icon page, and you would've seen, that there, we also say when the shows will air, and when and where to vote will appear when the time comes. Hey gang. I have read this entire bord and I must say I am beyond surprised. But before I go on let me say that my thoughts in no way reflect the views of the icon staff or the other judges. They are mine alone. I think that people will always find something to complain about. The fact is, we have done our best to make this Icon a community event that all can enjoy. Shark baby, you need to say no to negativity. The same goes for all the rest of you people who feel the need to bash. If you have valid concerns or questions, the Icon staff will answer them to the best of our ability. But this retarded ranting is just that, retarded. Quite a few of you have made comments without all of the facts and that makes you look like a fucking cunt. Now to those of you who thought the contest was rigged and then asked questions to get some clarity, way to go. That shows smarts on your end. Okay maddog your point is taken. Frankly, I had never gone to the icon page before tonight because frankly I didn't care. I wasn't a contestant, and I didn't think it effected me.
I've been there. I still don't know who the judges are, and I don't know how to vote when the time comes, but I'm assured I'll find out when the time comes. So, that's okay with me.

hello to all of you once again. I think it says quite clearly on the sight who the judges are. i could be wrong though. But no matter. Just keep an eye on the Icon sight and all will be explained. I also admire the o here. He is rooting for his friends instead of being a ho whore, and bashing. Way to go man! I think this contest will be a lot of fun. And let me assure all of you, that it is not rigged. As stated, you the audience will control the voting. Us judges are not allowed to vote. It will fall to the judges to convince you to vote for our choice, but in the end, the choice is yours. So happy voting, and happy Icon Listening.
Voting will take place on the Icon page, and after each poll is closed, you'll be able to see percentage statistics for that and prior polls. Right now the section is there, but we won't have our first poll until immediately after the show on Thursday, so you can't do much. Also please keep in mind that this is our first attempt at a contest. We're trying to pull a lot of things together (show creation, contestants from many countries and timezones, distributed team, reliable broadcasting, fare voting, etc.). We have an excellent team working on this and hope you'll stick with us in seeing it through.

I guess the reason I personally think It could be rigged is because what's to say one of the judges with the power over the stats couldn't just doctor them a little bit this way, a little bit that way, and bingo! Suddenly someone got like 2 million votes! Ok so not that many but still. I could see that kind of underhandedness going on if it was worth it to the particular person to swing it.
I guess that's my falt for not being clearer before now stating my opinion as to how or why I think it could possibly be fiddled with. I think another game show would be better though. Liam had the right idea with match game.
I would also like to say that the new contest announced in the news about someone making a good promo for the zone looks cool also. Just keep people from sounding like a humaine society full of howeling cats, and we'll be fine. lol

Cam, while I was suspicious at the beginning to, I have gotten over it, and I think you need to do so as well. I've heard some very talented singers on the zone and none of them sounded like animals being tortured. You really need to get over your bitterness regarding that one certain person and give credit where credit is due. If you don't want to listen, then don't. But don't try to ruin it for everyone.
Yeah, we really have nothing better to do than to personally fix the vote after you all have voted so that it won't mean anything. Come on, people, seriously! Do some of you actually think we're that secretive and we'd do that? It isn't rigged, you--the audiance--will be responsible for picking the Zone Icon, not the judges. We aren't allowed to vote. wow, what a waiste of bord space. I think all of the staff members and contestants have worked really hard on putting this show together. I think it will go down quite well and I'm almost posative that there will be no favoritism in picking the winner. I give credit ware credit is due and keep working hard guys. Well, OK, I must admit that I did bitch a little about all this icon stuff, but not because of how much it was being advertised or anything. It was just because my boyfriend happens to be the Zone Icon host and it seemed like all he was doing was stuff for Icon. Icon this, Icon that, ugh. I was getting sick and tired of Icon, especially when every time I tried to talk to him it would be forever before he gave me an answer. And especially when I started dreaming about Icon in my sleep. LOL. But seriously, the reason all these lovely staff/judges are putting so much time into this is because they want it to be the best that it can be. Give them a break. This is the first time they're doing something like this, so there's bound to be a few glitches, but hey ... first time's always an experience! You gotta start somewhere. I really don't think they're advertising way too much. In fact, I think they could advertise a little more. Some of you don't seem to have your facts straight.
I listened to the first show last night, and it was awesome. Let me tell you, I've had my share of sitting in the same room with the host and listening to him record over and over again, but when I heard the show broadcasted for the first time last night, I was in awe at how amazing it sounded. I could definitely see all the hard work that was put into it, and it just made me appreciate all the time everyone involved put into it even more. Even though I didn't enter, I think this ZI thing was a great idea, and I'm glad that these wonderful, incredible people got together to make such a great project happen.
You knnow, if you're already sick of hearing about Icon, it's only going to get worse for you. It's going to go on into December! Muahahahaha! And yes, I'll be the first to tell you that I am none too thrilled at the prospect of that, but I am willing to give my support to those involved.
It's just a game, yes, and maybe it's a waste of time to some of you. But it's all about having fun and a little friendly competition. There's no way the competition's rigged, either, but I won't reiterate what others have already said on that matter. I just have to say that, if you're sick of the advertising, there's a link on the page when you log in that says "click here" to continue to where you wanted to go. Don't read the news updates if they frustrate you that much! Just hit the tab key, hear it say "click here link" and move on with your lovely little life! It takes less time to do that than it does to bitch about it.
Anyway, congratulations to those who made the top ten! There are some I was really impressed with and shocked to find out you made it, but good job! And those I was sure would make it, you guys were awesome, too, of course.
And outstanding work, Icon staff! You guys rock! Yes, I said that, so like, write it down or something because I'm not going to say it again! LOL.
